“Quais são os escritores que nos enriquecem? Penso que isso é diferente para todos. Penso que lemos muito subjetivamente. Lemos aquilo de que precisamos. Há quase uma força obscura que nos guia para determinado livro numa determinada altura; depois criamos problemas quando tentamos racionalizar isso e dizemos que este escritor é bom e aquele escritor é mau. Nunca fui capaz de dizer isso. Compreende, não posso dizer que Simone de Beauvoir seja má escritora, mas posso dizer que não me enriquece. O que é uma afirmação totalmente diferente. E penso que isso varia muito. Elaborei uma lista de escritoras e dos seus livros que me enriqueceram. Mas não é uma seleção literária. É uma seleção puramente subjetiva e a sua podia ser totalmente diferente.”

Life On Other Planets

The science fiction magazine Fantastic Adventures shows us a glimpse of life on other planets from their 1939-1940 issues. While the alien designs are quite strange, they are meant to illustrate the different conditions on each planet, like gravity and atmosphere. All the planets besides Earth are included, even Pluto, plus Io, one of Jupiter’s moons.

An assignment for Advanced Digital! We were supposed to make a gif portrait of a historical figure. I chose Julie d’Aubigny, 17th century swordsmaster and opera singer, responsible for the deaths of at least ten men in duels, and openly bisexual. After her lover was placed into a convent by the girl’s parents, d’Aubigny took the vows to enter the convent as a novice, then rescued her lover and set the convent on fire to cover their escape. Dang.
